Material choice in a gas tool is never about finding one perfect metal - it is about matching each part's job to the metal whose strengths fit that job. Burner heads, fuel tubing, valves and joints each punish different weaknesses: heat must spread in one place, corrosion must be resisted in another, threads must hold in a third. Brass and stainless steel split those roles almost perfectly, which is why nearly every credible torch on the market carries both.
Four properties decide most material choices in this category: how well the metal moves heat, how it survives weather and fuel, how it holds up under repeated mechanical stress, and what it costs to machine precisely. Brass - a copper-zinc family - spreads heat readily, machines into clean threads and fittings, and resists corrosion in normal service. Stainless steel - 304 grade in our builds - delivers strength, low weight for its strength, and outstanding resistance to rust and weathering. Neither dominates the list; they complement it.
