Combustion is honest: the flame shows the air-gas balance as it burns. That makes flame color the quickest diagnostic in the category - and the one users ignore most. This chart fixes that, with one rule above all others: make one adjustment at a time, and treat a persistent abnormal flame as a stop signal, not a quirk.
Blue and steady means the air-gas mix is right. Yellow means incomplete combustion - close the knob or clear the air path per the manual. Lazy and wavering means the fuel is vaporizing slowly - a cold canister, low fuel, or the wrong canister angle. Lifting or blowing off the burner means excess pressure or strong draft. Repeated popping means stop using the tool. One adjustment at a time, flame pointed into open space, never toward people or anything flammable.
