Spec sheets, test reports and OEM quotes each speak their own dialect. This glossary collects the terms buyers meet most often around gas torches - what each one means in plain English and why it matters when you are comparing suppliers. Skim it before your next RFQ; the closing sections map the terms to the documents where they appear.

Half of cross-border sourcing friction is vocabulary. When a supplier says "backfire prevention" or a report says "extinguishment", both sides should picture the same thing - and a shared glossary is cheaper than a misunderstood order.
Start with the five terms that carry the most weight: utility lighter (the category the product sits in), triple protection (the safety layer), valve-linked auto shut-off (what happens when the flame dies), type test (how a design is certified) and MOQ (how a production run begins). The table below covers the rest, and the sections after it sort the terms by the document where you will meet them.

Definitions are written for buying conversations, not as standards text. For normative wording, refer to the standard or regulation itself. Fuel canisters are purchased locally according to local regulations.
Safety reports against standards such as ISO 9994 and ISO 22702 use a fixed vocabulary: flame height, extinguishment (the flame must die when the control is released), resistance to spitting, sputtering and flaring, and drop resistance. Reports may also distinguish pre-mixed from post-mixed flames, because the two are measured differently. When a report arrives, match these terms to the model name and the factory name before you file it - a report for another model is a document, not evidence. Commercial papers use a shorter list: MOQ (current terms from 500 pieces per model for OEM and 100 for in-stock items), lead time (15-20 days after deposit on current terms), OEM versus ODM, and sample fee refundable against the bulk order. Price terms follow trade-term usage - FOB, EXW and similar - which decides which cost blocks appear in the quote. Put these in writing with every RFQ; they are the difference between comparable quotes and anecdotal ones.
