Importing gas torches from China is a sequence, not a leap: define the product and its destination-market requirements, verify the supplier, sample, agree terms, lock the specification, inspect, ship, clear customs. Buyers who rush the early steps pay for it in the late ones. This guide walks the sequence as it applies to torch lighters and utility lighters specifically - a category where product-safety and transport rules are stricter than for general merchandise.

The short answer: successful torch imports run through eight steps - product definition, supplier verification, sampling, written terms, a sealed golden sample, pre-shipment inspection, documented shipping and customs clearance. None of the eight is difficult on its own; the failures come from doing them out of order or leaving them verbal. Here is each step with what it must settle.
Start with a written requirement sheet, not a screenshot of a product page. Fix the model type (compact kitchen torch, long-reach utility lighter, or an outdoor burner), the performance envelope you need, and the quantity range. On our line, for reference, flame temperature reaches about 1,300°C, flame length about 50 cm on high, electronic ignition is rated for 5,000+ ignitions, and the operating range spans -30°C to 30°C - figures you can hold a supplier to once they are in the specification.
Then fix the destination rules. Product-safety expectations for flame tools differ by market: ISO 9994 and ISO 22702 are the reference safety standards for lighters and utility lighters, and in the United States multi-purpose lighters must satisfy CPSC child-resistance requirements. Requirements change, so confirm the current rules for your market with your local authority or an accredited testing laboratory before you order - not after the goods land.
Decide first whether you need a factory or a trading company - torch programs with branding and customization belong with a manufacturer. Then verify: read the business license scope, audit the site onsite or through a third party, and check that certificates and test reports are issued in the producing company's name. A ten-minute license check has saved more import budgets than any negotiation tactic.
Order samples against your written criteria: ignition reliability, flame stability, valve shut-off, finish, weight, packaging. At ZHENTANZHE the sample fee is credited against the bulk order, so sampling costs you little more than time - and it converts assumptions into evidence before money moves.
Fix four things on paper before production: order threshold, lead time, payment method and customization scope. Under our current terms, OEM/ODM orders start from 500 pcs and in-stock models from 100 pcs; production lead time is 15-20 days after the deposit is received; payment is by T/T, L/C negotiable; and customization covers logo, color, packaging, manual language and canister-interface adaptation for your region. Every one of these lines is cheaper to agree now than to dispute later. The OEM/ODM page sets out the full customization path.
After sampling, both parties keep an identical, signed reference unit - the golden sample. It is the baseline your inspection will be measured against and the fastest way to end any argument about what was ordered.
Arrange a pre-shipment inspection of packed goods against the golden sample and the specification - function, flame behavior, markings, cartons, quantities. It is your last point of leverage while the goods are still on the factory floor.
Gas torches move under dangerous-goods rules, so packaging and paperwork matter as much as the product: your freight forwarder confirms the required packaging class and document set for the route. On classification, ignition lighters are commonly declared under HS heading 9613 (portable gas burners fall under a different chapter), with the final call made by the destination customs authority - confirm duty treatment with your customs broker rather than assuming it. Our certificates and compliance documents are available on request through the certifications page.
Your broker files the entry against the document set; duties and taxes follow the destination's tariff. Nobody can promise clearance in advance; what you control is a complete document set, honest declarations and a broker who has handled flame tools before.
| Step | What you settle | Output you hold |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Product & market definition | Model, performance envelope, destination requirements | Written requirement sheet |
| 2. Supplier verification | Factory vs agent; license, audit, certificate name-check | Verified counterparty |
| 3. Sampling | Evaluation criteria; sample fee credited to bulk | Approved sample |
| 4. Commercial terms | MOQ 500 OEM / 100 stock; 15-20 days after deposit; T/T, L/C negotiable | Signed proforma invoice |
| 5. Golden sample | Sealed reference unit agreed by both sides | Inspection baseline |
| 6. Pre-shipment inspection | Sampling of packed goods against spec | Inspection report |
| 7. Shipping & documents | Forwarder, dangerous-goods packaging, document set | Shipped consignment |
| 8. Customs & delivery | Broker, duties and taxes per destination | Goods in your warehouse |
And one line that belongs in every flame-tool shipment plan: these are professional tools - read the manual before use and keep them away from children. Ready to start the sequence? Send your model, quantity and target market through the RFQ form and we will reply with specifications, terms and a sampling plan.
FAQ
The common core set is a commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading, plus whatever the destination and dangerous-goods rules add: test reports, certificates of origin where applicable, and dangerous-goods packaging documentation. Your freight forwarder confirms the exact set for the route; our certificates and reports are available on request.
OEM/ODM orders start from 500 pcs and in-stock models from 100 pcs. Sample fees are credited against the bulk order, so the practical first step is a sample, then a small stock order, then a branded run.
Production runs 15-20 days after the deposit is received, under current terms. Add sampling before production and shipping plus customs clearance after it - both vary by destination, mode and season, so plan the calendar around the production window, not the other way round.
Ask for certificates and test reports issued in the producing company's name. ZHENTANZHE holds CE, TÜV, UL, CPSC and SGS certificates alongside ISO 9001, ISO 9994 and ISO 22702, and destination-specific requirements - such as child-resistance rules for the US market - should be confirmed with your local authority or a testing laboratory before ordering.
No. Refill gas canisters are subject to local regulations and are normally purchased in-market; our export scope covers the torch bodies and accessories. This also keeps the most tightly restricted part of the load out of your consignment.
