A sample request is the cheapest due diligence in importing: for the price of a courier fee you learn how a factory builds, communicates and stands behind its product before any real money moves. Done well, it is six steps - define what you are evaluating, send a complete brief, confirm fee and schedule, test against written criteria, give specific feedback, then commit. Here is each step as it works on a real torch order.
About a 6-minute read · English edition
The short answer: request samples with a brief that names the model, the market, the customization intent and your evaluation criteria - then judge what arrives against those written criteria, not against a mood. At ZHENTANZHE the sample fee is credited against the bulk order, so the sample is the first installment of the order you intend to place, not a separate expense.
Write the criteria before the unit exists. For a gas torch the list usually covers ignition reliability, flame stability and adjustability, shut-off behavior when the flame goes out, build and finish, weight and balance, and how the unit feels for your specific application - kitchen searing, charcoal lighting, weed control or farm work. On our line the reference points are published: flame temperature up to about 1,300°C, flame length up to about 50 cm on high, electronic ignition rated 5,000+ ignitions, operating range -30°C to 30°C.
One message, four facts: model (or the application if you want a recommendation), quantity of samples, intended market (it drives the canister-interface adaptation), and customization intent - logo, color, packaging and manual language if you want a branded sample rather than a stock unit. A brief like this gets a quotation and a schedule back; a one-line "please send sample" gets a questionnaire.
Sample fees and freight are confirmed at the request, and at ZHENTANZHE the fee is credited against the bulk order. Sampling duration varies with customization depth - a stock model leaves quickly, a branded sample waits for artwork confirmation - so state your deadline in the brief and have the schedule confirmed against it.
When the unit arrives, run the list. Ignite repeatedly and note misfires; check the flame at high and low settings; close the valve and watch the flame die; inspect the seam lines, the valve knob and the finish; weigh it against the specification. Safety first while testing: a torch is a professional tool - read the manual before use and keep it away from children - and test in a clear workspace, never indoors near anything flammable.
"The ignition felt weak" is not feedback; "three misfires in fifty ignitions on the first day, none after refitting the canister" is. Specific findings get specific fixes. This is also where a factory shows its nature: a maker responds with causes and corrections; a relay responds with apologies.
Approved sample becomes the golden sample - sealed and kept by both sides as the order's baseline. Then commit in the sequence that matches your evidence: branded OEM runs start at 500 pcs, stock models at 100 pcs, payment by T/T, L/C negotiable. The OEM/ODM page sets out the full frame.
| Check | Method | Pass signal |
|---|---|---|
| Ignition | Repeated ignitions across the day | Consistent light-off; rated 5,000+ ignitions on the platform |
| Flame performance | High and low settings, steady hold | Stable flame; up to ~50 cm on high, ~1,300°C class heat |
| Shut-off | Release or close the valve mid-burn | Flame cuts cleanly; auto shut-off when flame goes out |
| Build and finish | Visual and hand inspection of seams and valve | No gaps or burrs; finish matches the approved reference |
| Marking and manual | Compare against your brief | Logo placement and languages as specified |
| Packaging | Inspect box, inserts, carton | Dieline as approved; unit protected in transit |
Send that through the RFQ form and the reply you get back is a quotation and a sampling plan - the first step of an order, already in motion.
FAQ
A sample fee applies, and at ZHENTANZHE it is credited against the bulk order once you place it - so the sample effectively becomes the first paid step of the order rather than a sunk cost. Freight is arranged per your instruction when you request.
It varies with customization depth - a standard model ships as it is, while branded samples wait for artwork confirmation and application setup. The schedule for your specific request is confirmed when you ask, so put your deadline in the first message rather than the third.
Yes - customized samples are part of the OEM route. The sequence is the same as a production order in miniature: artwork confirmed, drawing checked, sample built to it. That is why sending final vector artwork with the request shortens the whole path.
Enough for your evaluation to be honest: units for hands-on testing, one for the showroom or photography, and one kept untouched as the reference. Small quantities are normal for sample requests; the point is coverage of your checks, not volume.
Feed the findings back in specifics - what you tested, what you observed, what did not match. The factory revises against the written feedback and re-samples. This loop is exactly what the sample stage is for; a bulk order should never be the place a flaw is discovered.
