Butane Torch Buying Checklist for Importers
Most torch import programs fail on process, not on price: a specification that was never written down, a certificate whose scope did not match the destination market, a sample round that tested nothing measurable. This checklist compresses the pre-order work into ten checks you can run against any supplier - including us. Each row states what good looks like and what should stop you. Use it before the first RFQ, and again before the deposit. Ground rule first: torches ship as bodies and accessories only; fuel canisters are purchased locally by end users according to local regulations.

The checklist works because it converts vague supplier conversations into document requests. Every "what good looks like" cell corresponds to a paper trail you can file; every red flag is a pattern that predicts trouble after the goods land. Run it top to bottom - product definition first, commercial frame last.

How to run the checklist
Send all ten lines to each candidate supplier as questions, not as a form to sign. The answers themselves are data: a supplier who names mechanisms, test lists and certificate scope pages is auditable later; one who answers in adjectives will be impossible to hold to anything. Score each row pass or fail, and let two failed rows in the safety band (rows 3, 4, 7) end the conversation early - they are the cheapest failure at this stage and the most expensive one after shipment.
Where the stakes justify it, back the document review with an on-site visit or a third-party audit. Walking the line tells you whether the per-unit tests in row 7 happen on a fixture with records, or on a poster.
Weight the sample properly
The sample round is not a formality - it is the only time you can test the actual object against the checklist at trivial cost. On arrival, verify what can be verified quickly: ignition consistency across a long session of repeated lights, knob feel through the adjustment range, seal and joint quality, body length and balance against the specification sheet. Log findings per row. From checklist to RFQ
When you are ready to compare offers, send the same brief to each factory: model, quantity, destination market and the answers you already hold for rows 1-8. Comparable inputs produce comparable quotes - and they make the 15-20 day lead-time promise checkable, because both sides know what "done" means. What documents should I request before placing a torch order?
At minimum: the rated specification sheet per model, the factory test documentation behind claims such as flame temperature and ignition life, certificate copies for your destination market with model coverage and validity dates, and the packing specification. A supplier who answers these in writing is a supplier you can audit later.
What is the typical MOQ for custom torch orders?
ZHENTANZHE works with a MOQ of 500 pieces for OEM orders and 100 pieces for stock models. Lead time is 15-20 days after the deposit is received. If a quote arrives without a written MOQ and lead-time basis, ask for both before comparing prices.
Is the sample fee refunded?
At ZHENTANZHE the sample fee is credited against the bulk order, so the sample round is effectively free once production proceeds. Treat a supplier's sample policy as a signal of how they treat disputes: clear crediting terms usually mean clearer after-sales terms.
How is quality controlled during mass production?
